![]() ![]() That prevents accidental ful siphons or noisy air bubbles popping in the sump. I use 90s where I literally don't have the space for 45s but I slope my tubing as much as I can get away with to ensure its always downhill. I second saltwater60 on getting rid of the 90s over the sump, it looks like what you have there is actually running up hill, that in itself would start your siphon issue. The water will run about 1/4" up the teeth most likely but if you're pumping too fast you might need wider teeth. This type of drain inlet will permanently fix your water level in the display. One full siphon, one partial /secondary drain, and one emergency. Has become more a generic name for 3 drain system. Bean animal is named after the guy who created it. If you wanted you could install a tee on your main drain and an elbow from your secondary and connect that to the Reefmat. No need to worry about it going thru the Reefmat. If the drain gurgles like that, make a silencer cap for the whole assembly with a cap one size bigger with notches cut in it to match (remember since it's a circle they will be bigger and further than 1/4), then just set it on top. The tanks drain-holes/bulkheads go into the overflow box, then the Bean Animal style overflow drains go to the sump. The amount of water that should be coming out of your secondary drain should be very minimal if any at all. ![]() Use a hole saw and drill it in the middle, then build a new pipe and elbow to hold it up in the tank like a suspended weir. make sure theres about 3-maybe even 4-5 cm head pressure distance to get that single pipe flowing 100. ![]() The return pumps ball valve acts to regulate and dial in the exact flow to have just a trickle into the thr 2nd drain pipe. This calculator will re-enforce what theMeat said. You want to hear the splash if there is a problem. Re the bean animal, I concur re not submerging the third, emergency line. Is the drain pipe in the tank a slip bulkhead fitting or glued? If it's a slip, I would buy a 5" or 6" cap, cut slots into the top of it 1/4" each, spaced 1/4 and just over 1/2" deep like a crown. Etymology: colloquialism stemming from misinterpretation if a circa 1986 DIY t-shirt that was meant to say 'B e A n A n i m a l'. The second drain pipe acts as the unrestricted emergency overflow and also the slight trickle over flow. If you want to proceed with retrofitting a bean animal to your setup: IMO scale down the plumbing on a 2 tank to 20mm or 25mm depending on the turnover you want. The ghost overflow box bulkheads are 1' thread x slip with the slip part for easy removal of the overflow box standpipes. ![]()
